Parasite protection FAQs

How often should I treat my pet for fleas?

This will depend on your pet's lifestyle, size and weight. The course of treatment can vary. It's important that you read the product guidelines and speak to your vet if you have any concerns.

Do I need to treat my pet year-round?

All pets are susceptible to picking up fleas during spring, summer and winter. Without regular flea treatment a single flea can very quickly turn into an infestation. Speak to your vet if you have any concerns.

How can I tell if my pet has fleas?

Look out for itching and scratching, irritated skin and black specks on your pet's skin. Most often seen on the skin at the top of the tail and around the neck and shoulders - gently part your pet's hait to look at their skin. Fleas can bite humans too - look for itchy, red bumps on your skin. Severe flea infestations in pets can cause anaemia, and fleas can also pass on tapeworms to your pet.

What are the different types of flea treatment available?

There are a wide variety of flea and tick treatments available and different formats to suit your pet's lifestyle. The most common are spot-on solutions, tablets, collars, and household sprays. It's important that you read the product guidelines and speak to your vet if you have any concerns.

Is it safe to use flea and tick treatment on a pregnant or nursing pet?

We recommend you speak to your vet first and always read the data sheet of any medication you intend to use on a pregnant or lactating pet.

How often should I worm my pet?

This will depend on your pet's lifestyle. Factors like diet, tendence to scavenge or hunt, and outdoor habits will all affect how likely it is for your cat or dog to contract worms, and therefore, how often they need treatment. It's important that you read the product guidelines and speak to your vet if you have any concerns.

What are the signs my pet has worms?

Look for itchy bottoms (rubbing/scooting bottom along the floor), visible worms in your pet's poo and around their bottom. You can also sometimes see worms in their vomit if they are sick. Severe worm infestations can cause weight loss, a bloated appearance to their stomach/abdomen, diarrhoea, and other symptoms. Lungworm can cause coughing, shortness of breath, and excessive bleeding. Contact your vet if you notice any of these symptoms.

Can I catch worms from my pet?

Yes, roundworms can infect humans, and can cause sever symptoms (including blindness) especially in children, so parasite control is important not just for your pet's health but for your family's health as well.

When should I worm my kitten?

Kittens can get worms, especially if their mother already has them. The exact time to start worming will depend on if the kitten shows symptoms, their age, their weight, and the treatment you use. It's important that you read the product guidelines and make sure it's suitable for kittens. Speak to your vet if you have any concerns.

When should I worm my puppy?

Puppies can catch worms in the womb or through their mother's milk. The exact time to start worming will depend on in the puppy shows sympyoms, their age, their weight and the treatment you use. It's important that you read the product guidelines and make sure it's suitable for puppies. Speak to your vet if you have any concerns.
