Step 2 - Register

We have to match any medication with the correct animal. You can register your pet's details in 'My Account' under 'My Animals'.

If you have multiple pets you’ll be ordering for, you’ll need to register all of them.

Step 4 - Send

Send us your precription via upload, email, post or fax.

Make sure your prescription is valid and all the information is correct. If it’s not in date, or there are errors, we can’t process your order.

How to send your prescription to us

There are four ways you can do this:

Upload it when ordering

This is the easiest and most efficient way to send us your prescription.

Step 1: Scan or photograph your prescription - please ensure your photographs are nice and clear; if we can’t read it, we can’t process it.

Please note: If your prescription is more than 1 page, please ensure to send photos of all pages.

Step 2: Add your prescription medications to your cart and checkout.

Step 3: Once you get to the 'Pets' section of the checkout, select the relevant pet's name for each medication, check the details and select the ‘Confirm Pet’ button.

Step 4: Once you get to the 'Prescription' section of the checkout, select 'upload a prescription'. You can then click the 'upload' button to select the prescription from your files or drag and drop the prescription over the upload box.

If you have multiple prescriptions, please upload separate images of each one to ensure we can process your order as quickly as possible.

Step 5: Ensure you tick the boxes at the bottom of the page and click ‘Next’ to continue and complete your order.

Your prescription will be passed to our vet team for approval, which can take up to 2 working days. After that your order will be processed for dispatch. If there is a problem with your prescription, you will be notified by email.

Email it to us

Once you get to the 'Prescription' section of the checkout, select 'Email' and continue to complete your order. When writing your email please include your order number, attach an image of your prescription, and email it to prescriptions@animeddirect.co.uk. If you are uploading more than one prescription, please send them as individual images to avoid any delays with processing your order.

Post it to us

Once you get to the 'Prescription' section of the checkout, select 'Post' and continue to complete your order. Write your order number on the top of your prescription and send it to: Prescription, Animed Direct Ltd, CVS House, Owen Road, Diss, Norfolk, IP22 4ER. We would recommend you send prescriptions using a 'signed for' delivery service.

Vet sending it directly to Animed

Some veterinary practices will not provide physical prescriptions and instead, will offer to send your prescription directly to us. Once you have ordered, please tell your veterinary practice to send your prescription to us via email on prescriptions@animeddirect.co.uk or via post (if required), and ask them to include your order number (you will need to provide this to them).

Please only select this option at the checkout if your veterinary practice has confirmed they are happy to send us your prescription and you have a valid prescription. You are responsible for ensuring we receive a valid prescription, any issues or delays in us receiving a valid prescription may lead to your order being delayed or cancelled.

Please note: you will need to check with your vet if your prescription is for a Controlled Drug. The Controlled Drugs that we stock are Epiphen, Epirepress, Soliphen, Epityl, Tralieve and Tramvetol. If it is, you will need to post your original prescription to us, we are unable to accept copies, scans, photographs, or faxes of controlled drug prescriptions.

Your vet may also stipulate that the original prescription is needed for other types of prescription medication.

If your prescription is for several different items and one of them is an item we do not stock, you will need to obtain that item at a different veterinary medicines retailer. We request that you mail us your original prescription so we can mark what we have supplied for the information of other veterinary medicine retailers. We will then return the prescription to you so you can use it to obtain any items we do not stock.

Top tips for a smooth process

  1. Remember a prescription has an expiry date - By law the maximum validity of a prescription is 6 months, but your vet practice may stipulate a shorter validity. If your prescription has expired or the full allocation has already been ordered, you’ll need to return to your vet for a new, valid prescription and pay again. Prescriptions for Controlled Drugs are only valid for 28 days from the date of issue.
  2. Pets on long term medication - Vets can write repeat prescriptions to be used a number of times over 6 months (or less depending on the validity stated), saving you time and money. However, repeat prescriptions are not valid on Controlled Drug prescriptions and will not be accepted.
  3. Don’t leave it until the last month of your prescription’s validity before ordering - If we receive orders in the last month the prescription is valid, our system automatically stops the order, and our vet team must manually check that it is safe to process. For less delay, order your prescription when you receive it. Order in good time to allow for delivery so that you don’t run out of necessary pet medication. You have the option to pay for express delivery if required. Find out more about our delivery options.
