Oxbow Natural Science Vitamin C Supplement for Small Animals

Vitamin C or ascorbic acid deficiency is the most common and most preventable disease in guinea pigs.

Adults must be supplemented with at least 10mg of vitamin C for every kilogram of body weight.

Pregnant, nursing and growing guinea pigs need at least 30mg of vitamin C for every kilogram of body weight.

Insufficient vitamin C intake leads to a condition known as scurvy.

Clinical signs of vitamin C or ascorbic acid deficiency may include rough coat, anorexia, diarrhoea, bleeding from the gums, lameness and pain. Delayed wound healing and increased susceptibility to bacterial infections may also occur.

The Oxbow Natural Science Vitamin C Supplement is a stabilised vitamin C supplement which supports overall health in small animals including Guinea Pigs, Chinchillas, Rabbits and other small animals.

It is hay based and high in fibre.

Key Benefits:

  • Palatability - The usual supplementation method of adding vitamin C to water often changes its taste, and thus intake may be adversely affected. Daily C has a pleasant flavour and is readily accepted by most small animals
  • Guaranteed Intake - Feeding a tablet guarantees that pets receive the entire guaranteed amount of the supplement necessary for optimum health. Supplements lose their potency when added to water. Animals may refuse or reduce the amount of water due to the taste of a water soluble supplement, which may lead to other health problems as well. Feeding a tablet, on the other hand, lets pet owners take the guesswork out of supplements
  • Stability - The bioavailability of Daily C is substantially higher than that of dissolved sources. Water soluble powders have a low stability in water; only 20% of the vitamin C sources remain after 8 hours in water

Size Guide:

  • Pack of 60 Hay Tablets

For guinea pigs, rabbits and Chinchillas (all weights) feed one hay tablet daily.

Rats and Degus (all weights) feed 1/4 hay tablet per day.

In times of stress, vitamin C requirements may increase.

Consult your veterinarian for more information.
