The hospital is situated in the main road from Wickham to Botley at the junction with the road to Bishops Waltham. Access is straight off the main road through double gates wide enough to take even the largest horse box.
There is ample parking in front of the hospital and a large, separate parking and turning area for horse boxes at the side of the building.
The building has been purpose built as a veterinary hospital with multi-zone positive pressure ventilation to control smells and the spread of infection as well as air conditioning in many areas.
The waiting room is spacious and airy with positive flow ventilation and both natural and artificial lighting. A large reception desk is permanently staffed by two receptionists who will book you in for your appointment, make future appointments, answer any queries you may have as well as arrange collection of any pre-ordered medicines and specialist diets.
There are three purpose built consulting rooms that lead off from the waiting room. All are air-conditioned for the comfort of you and your pet. Each consulting room is fully equipped and linked to our computerised clinical records. A rear door leads into the hospital allowing nurses and other support staff to be called in to help with specialist procedures. An extensively stocked dispensary ensures we always have the optimal treatments for your animal.
We have separate wards for dogs, cats and small pets such as rabbits, guinea pigs, rats etc. The dog ward has a range of kennel sizes from walk-in units suitable for giant breeds to smaller units suitable for toy breeds. The cat unit has its own kitchen area for preparing cats' diets and a wash-tub for bathing cats. Each ward is self contained with negative pressure ventilation.
The three air conditioned operating suites are positioned around the edge of the surgical unit leading off the preparation area. All are maintained at a positive pressure to minimise the risk of peri-operative infections.
Each unit has a dedicated operating table with piped anaesthetic gases and a gas-scavenging system. A further unit houses the specialised dental facilities with two dental tub tables, piped anaesthetic gases and scavenging system and dental de-scaler, dental X-ray, ultrasonics and polishing units.
The hospital is supported by a veterinary laboratory where we can analyse samples collected from your animals. Such analyses help determine treatment programs and likely outcomes. The laboratory is especially useful outside office hours. We also use specialist outside laboratories for histology, bacteriology, hormone assays etc. To allow us to handle animals with infectious diseases we have two isolation units. These self contained rooms with their own air supply, plumbing, drainage etc. are maintained at negative pressure to prevent infection spreading through the hospital. Each unit can be sealed and fumigated after an animal is discharged.
At the rear of the hospital building is the equine unit. Here there are five loose boxes for in-patients, an examination room with stocks to restrain the horse and full X-ray, surgical, endoscopy and ultrasound facilities.
On the first floor are various offices. A large central area is the small animal veterinary surgeons' room where they can take phone calls and discuss the progress of cases. Off this room is an office for the accounts staff, an office for the practice manager, a kitchen, rest-room and shower-room together with a rest-room for the duty nurse.
